Gebhard von Blucher
Marshal Blucher was adored by his troops. He called them his children and they called him 'Marshal Forwards'. At Waterloo he was 73 years old but was still the driving force behind 'The Royal Prussian Army of the Lower Rhine'. He would never admit defeat and would not hesitate to lead an attack personally if it looked to be in danger of faltering. During the retreat from Ligny, his horse was injured and fell on him but he refused to leave the field. Instead, he doused himself in a foul smelling concoction of remedies and was present at Waterloo to witness the final defeat of Napoleon and to congratulate Wellington.
