The outcome at Waterloo was decided mainly by the influence of four men. Aside from the principal generals, Wellington and Napoleon, significant contributions were made by Blucher and Ney. Blucher's commitment to Wellington proved to be the turning point in the day and Ney, although often criticised for his handling of the French cavalry charges, very nearly snatched victory for his Emperor.
